Costa Rica Cultural and ECO Immersion 10 Days & 9 Nights

Immerse yourself on this unique adventure. This is program combines three different activities of growing experiences: help to clean beach on National park, discover Bibri culture. learn about Sustainability and good practices; offering an opportunity to reflect on our own daily lives at home. All this combine with all the natural wonders that you will find in Costa Rica.


Day 01 Arrival – San Jose Arrival in San José. A representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the airport and take you to the Presidente Hotel.

Day 02 San Jose – Tortuguero Early morning pick up for the drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park. Have a quick stop at the Restaurante in Guapiles to have a complete breakfast and then continue to the Caño Blanco Dock. On the way pass through a banana plantation where you will have an explanation of the banana processes. Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica’s most popular eco-tourism destinations, the canals and rivers of Tortuguero National Park are a study in rainforest, freshwater and marine biology. The park and small town of Tortuguero can only be accessed by boat or small aircraft. Considered one of the world’s major nesting sites for the Atlantic green turtle, you can see these great creatures between July and October.  Later on you will drive into Tortuguero by boat (approx. 2 hrs). This afternoon is a great opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your guide. Through this visit you will learn the ways of life of the local residents of Tortuguero. After the visit and some free time, we will return back to the Lodge walking by the trail on the beach directly to the Lodge.

Day 03 Tortuguero After breakfast, get ready for cleaning the beach of Tortuguero… Afterwards explore with your guide the lodge attractions such as the butterfly farm, frog farm, ranarium, aquarium, bio-digestor, and gardens. After a delicious lunch, a boat tour in the Tortuguero Canals. This tour introduces visitors to the rich rainforest and its great array of Wildlife.

Day 04 Tortuguero – Puerto Viejo After breakfast, return by boat to the dock near Limón. After lunch take a shuttle bus to Puerto Viejo on the south caribbean coast. Costa Rica’s South Caribbean Coast offers abundant wildlife, pristine rain forest and plenty of activities for the adventurous. The two charming villages of Puerto Viejo and Cahuita start to live on reggae rhythms at sunset with an authentic Afro-Caribbean atmosphere. Visitors will find lots to do in the zone, beginning with sunbathing and swimming along the miles of white, sand and coral beaches. Other popular activities include kayaking, surfing, hiking and horseback riding, tours to the nearby Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge or Cahuita National Park.

Day 05 Mishka Kapuk Yorkín This excursion will take us to the indigenous territory of the Bribri located in the tropical rainforest of Talamanca. This is an incomparable opportunity to experience the Bribri culture. The excursion starts in the village of Bambú with a local store and a police station. The local guide will wait for us in the local store where we will get into an indigenous canoe steered by an experienced boat crew from the village which will take us down the Yorkín River, the natural border between Costa Rica and Panama, while we enjoy the exuberant vegetation of this area. Upon our arrival in Yorkín, after a tour of approximately one hour, we will go around the village and on our way to the rural lodge Posada Rural Stibrawpa we will pass by organic banana and cacao plantations. After our arrival, we will have a delicious snack before visiting the Skui River and the suspension bridge where we will enjoy a swim in the natural pools. Afterwards, we will enjoy a Bribri style lunch, followed by a lecture on how the organization started. For desert, we will learn how to produce chocolate and we will have organic bananas submerged in a freshly prepared chocolate sauce. Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to learn how the inhabitants of Bribri tile the roofs of their houses. In the evening, we will have dinner and conclude with a cultural exchange during which we will listen to ancient stories about the Bribri culture, an oral tradition which has been passed on from generation to generation.

Day 06 Morning Tours – Puerto Viejo In the morning, we will have breakfast to stock up on energy for the hike of approximately 3 hours during which we will visit the group of Women Looking after the Forest – Arakupa Kakonu in Panama. We will cross the Yorkín River which will take us to this community. Upon arrival, we will have a snack while we enjoy a presentation on artisan coffee production or the preparation of banana cream. Afterwards, we shall take a walk in the forest while the women tell us some of their stories about Talamanca. Upon our return, we will have lunch. Don´t forget to buy a souvenir from Stibrawpa. They elaborate handicrafts with resources from the forest. Afterwards, we will be ready to depart in the canoe to return to Bambú. From there you will be transfer to your hotel in Puerto Viejo.

Day 07 Rancho Margot

After breakfast shuttle bus transfer to Arenal. Upon arrival to La Fortuna you will be pick up by Rancho Margot your hose basis for two nights. On the shores of Lake Arenal and the valley of the Caño Negro river, surrounded by the Children´s Eternal Rain Forest and the Arenal Forest Reserve you will find our little piece of paradise that we call Rancho Margot. Owned by the Sostheim family who upon visiting Costa Rica fell in love with Lake Arenal and its surrounding area. As luck would have it, they were able to purchase approximately 400 acres on the shores of the lake with beautiful volcano views, primary rainforest, eleven natural springs and the largest river feeding Lake Arenal flowing through the property. Having traveled all over the world and witnessed the devastation that had occurred in other “paradises”, the family decided to develop Rancho Margot as a teaching community based on sustainable rural tourism and conservation.

Day 08 Rancho Margot Full day Adventure

RANCH TOUR enjoy an informative walking tour. Learn about how the ranch began as pastureland and has now been transformed into an oasis of knowledge on sustainability. Observe the variety of unique systems created to produce all of the hot water and cooking gas needed on the ranch by taking advantage of organic matter turning into compost. Learn about making electricity from renewable power sources. Enjoy as well a Kayak trip and Horseback ride to the Mirador, and to relax after hard day of adventure a free yoga class.

Day 09 Return to San Jose :

After lunch return back to San Jose.
