Day 01 Arrival – San Jose

Upon your arrival in San Jose our representative in Costa Rica will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the Palm House Inn Hotel in downtown San Jose.

Day 02 Shared Poas Volcano – Doka Coffee Estate – la Paz Tour (B-L)

Combo tour is an intense fun filled set of excursions where you will embark on three distinct adventures.To get to the different areas we will traverse the city of Alajuela, passing the Agriculture Monument, as well as the Monument to Juan Santamaria named after a folk hero and the famous Mango Park a favorite among visitors alike. As we ascend the terrain and near the Poás Volcano we will notice a change in temperature and vegetation; we will see coffee plantations as well as fern, flower and strawberry farms along the way, creating a beautiful array of colors and textures. On the way to the volcano we will visit the Doka Coffee Estate for a delicious breakfast. Then we will be treated to a coffee tour in an actual coffee plantation where we will learn the ancient techniques used by the experts to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and around the world. The careful process involved in the cultivation, harvesting and roasting of the Golden Bean will then be illustrated, very hands-on, and then we will savor the delectable end product. After the coffee tour we will continue to the Poás Volcano where we will not only admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, but also learn about the different ecosystems in this unique and protected national park. Following the visit to the volcano we will continue to the La Paz Water Fall Garden for a scrumptious lunch and tour. As we arrive to La Paz, we will walk through a trail, leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Inside the park we will also visit the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the bird house, the butterfly garden and the frog’s exhibit; to be enjoyed by those of all ages. After a terrific lunch (included in the package) return to San Jose.

Day 03 Shared Rain Forest Aerial Tram (B-L-D)

Departure from San José on shuttle transfer to the Rain Forest Aerial Tram – Caribbean. Located 50 minutes away from San José, visitors will  enjoy the beautiful sites of the Costa Rican coffee plantations and agricultural areas on the way. You will travel 30 minutes through Braulio Carrillo National Park along the main road that connects the capital city with the Caribbean Coast. Arrival to the Rain Forest Aerial Tram where participants will be welcomed by friendly staff. At this boarding area guests will be invited to board for the tractor experience, as participants will enter the facility in an open-air coach pulled by a tractor.  A stop will be made for a short walk over the hanging bridge, where they can experience the fascination of the forest and the clear fresh water river that is filled with machacas, a local fish. Lunch will be ready at our main Restaurant. An informational video will be presented at our Video Room where the forest, not walls, surrounds the room, which is perfect to gather participants and introduce them to our project. After this short video presentation guests will be divided into smaller groups, to proceed directly to the boarding station for the Tram Ride The idea is to show all visitors the different levels of a rainforest, including the treetops or canopy – the hardest level to access and up to now the least scientifically known part of the forest.  The length of the Tram ride is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Dinner included that night. An evening Butterfly presentation by an expert naturalist guide where the group will have the opportunity of learning about the different kinds of butterflies that exist at our Forest.

Day 04 Shared Chirripo Whitewater Rafting (B-L-D)

After breakfast, you will be picked up at the Rainforest Lodge for the approximately 20 minute drive to the river put-in. After a short safety briefing, you will rig your raft and begin the journey downriver. This trip offers class III + rapids down the Chirripo river through the voluminous rapids with lots of waves that will make the experience unforgettable. Upon finishing the tour, you will have time to change your clothes and begin the trip to the Rainforest Lodge. You will also receive a box lunch.  You will be dropped off at the Rainforest Lodge main entrance. From there, a lodge’s shuttle will take you to the front desk. Dinner included that night at the lodge.

Day 05 Aerial Tram-Tortuguero National Park (B-L-D)

After breakfast, you will be picked up at the main gate of the Rainforest Lodge, and will be transferred approximately 3 hours to Caño Blanco Port. Then, we will enjoy a boat ride along the canals of Tortuguero National Park. On the way, short stop for breakfast. One of Costa Rica’s most popular ecotourism destinations, the canals and rivers of Tortuguero National Park are a study in rainforest, freshwater and marine biology.  The park and small town of Tortuguero can only be accessed by boat or small aircraft. Considered one of the world’s major nesting sites for the Atlantic green turtle, you can see these great creatures between July and October. Arrive at Laguna Lodge for lunch. The lodge will schedule a tour to the village in the afternoon. This tour to the village of Tortuguero will provide detailed information of its history, culture and work in favor of conservation of the sea turtles and the flora and fauna in general. They will also visit the Sea Museum of the ”Caribbean Conservation Corporation”.

Day 06 Tortuguero Canals (B-L-D)

After breakfast, guests will enjoy the boat tours along the canals of Tortuguero. They will visit the canals within the National park to discover a large variety of birds and receive detailed information on the flora and fauna of the area. Return to the lodge for lunch. Afterwards take a hiking trip to the Hill of Tortuguero: It provides impressive views on the whole valley of Tortuguero and from the trail it is easy to discover different species of inhabitants among which are three different kinds of monkeys, sloths, caimans, turtles, iguanas, poison arrow frogs and many birds and insects including the blue butterfly (Morpho peleides).

Day 07 Return to San Jose (B-L)

Take boat-bus trip back to San Jose. Stop of the way for lunch (included into package). Afternoon arrival to the Palm House Inn Hotel.
